Design Wall Monday – Flying Geese

Today I’m headed out to a quilting retreat – I’ll be joining the Eudora Quilt Guild as a day camper. They always go on retreat over the President’s Day weekend and they invite me to come and sew with them. So my design wall is empty but my basket is packed with flying geese.

The flying geese are a friendship trade I’m in the middle of with a group of 8 quilting buddies. Every month or so we swap little packets with four completed flying geese blocks.

Ours are stitched in 30s prints and we are all using the Marti Michell flying geese ruler so they are coming out very accurate.

I’m connecting mine into long rows each time I get a set.

Huge flocks of Canada Geese winter in the rice fields near my parent’s home in CA. At dusk the fly over the farm in great V’s.

  1. That’s a nice idea swapping blocks with friends. I’ve made flying geese with the MM Q-set (a square and 2 triangles), but the special tool would be faster. I have to check it out.
Regarding the real geese, I live near the top of an apartment block and here the geese don’t fly over, they fly past. What a din!

  2. Hi Barb,
Just wanted you to know how much I am enjoying your blog! I discovered it about 6 weeks ago, and have been an avid follower ever since. I even thought about making those little stars, but decided against it!! I hope to get to Kansas one of these days, but who knows when!! Although I’ve been doing a lot of traveling lately, Kansas just doesn’t seem to be on my route! I just got back from 3 1/2 weeks in Africa, visiting Drew and Sara and Lila, and having the best time in the world. I also did the Alaska trip this past summer — 2 months camping in my minivan! Now I need to get back to work to pay for these trips! Hope to see you sometime soon.
    Love, Sally
