Final Day in the Five Day Challenge

It’s Day 5 – I did it! I posted a quilt a day for five days! Today, as the grand finale, I have a real treat for you – my first quilt!

Made when I was in high school, this fabulous, Streak of Lightning quilt is just as bright today as it was in 1976, thanks in part due to the polyester blend fabrics and also in part to the fact that it has barely seen the light of day for, oh, about 30 years or so! Get your sunglasses!

I cut it out with tissue paper patterns and stitched it with 5/8″ seam allowances. What can I say? I came to quilting via the route of dressmaking. Have you sewn a 5/8″ seam lately? It seems absolutely gigantic!

I hope you have enjoyed five days of quilt pictures. Today I nominate Sally Schneider to the five day challenge.  She taught me how to use a rotary cutter and sew a 1/4″ seam! Thanks goodness for Sally!
